Your mission statement is useless if it can’t tell you what to do next Tuesday.
Most mission statements sound great…and do absolutely nothing.
They’re full of lofty ideals, corporate buzzwords, and platitudes like "We strive to deliver exceptional client service with integrity and innovation."
Yawn. 🥱
You don’t need a paragraph that sounds good on your About page.
You need a decision-making filter.
Something that answers the real Monday-morning question:
👉 “What should I be doing right now?”
I didn’t always have one. For years, I ran my practice like a game of legal Whac-A-Mole—chasing referrals, jumping at every opportunity, drowning in admin, saying yes when I should’ve said absolutely not.
Then I wrote a mission that actually made a difference.
It looked like this:
“I will increase revenue from non-domestic cases to 70% of overall sales, increase post-tax profit margin to 10%, and increase revenue earned by LawGuides to $5,000 by the end of the year because everyone deserves affordable legal help.”
Not poetic. But powerful.
It told me where I was going, why it mattered, and what to ignore.
If you’re tired of reacting and want to start leading, this is the first step.
